Ladies, we’re equipped

Lately one single article has settled on my mind. I knew I found something good when I realized the post has stayed open in my internet tabs for over two weeks. The post was written by, NieNie Dialogues, and titled, Mothers are not wimps. The title alone drew me in and reminded me that as a woman, I have what it takes to go through life.

Sometimes the world lets us believe that our responsibilities in life are way above us; that we’re continually almost drowning in a sea of lack of sleep, hardships, tantrums and trials that are insurmountable. While I believe there are times and situations that test our limits, I also believe we are far more capable than we give ourselves credit for.

We were prepared for this life. We were given special gifts and the capacity to tackle life’s troubles. Innately, we have what it takes to overcome whatever is thrown at us. And when a trial comes that seems to wipe us out–we are still equipped, as we turn to our God who is on our side and who is infinitely stronger than the waves of trials crashing down.

7738_10151716072776763_141364709_n(1)We’re equipped.

Yes, innately and with God’s help, we’re equipped for the midnight feedings, devastating depression, and loneliness. We’re equipped for sleepless nights, broken dreams, and empty hearts. We’re equipped for the illness, for comparisons, and for unkind remarks. We’re equipped.

I firmly believe God did not hang us out to dry when he sent us to earth.

Just as I hope to carefully prepare my children for their first day of school; just as we triple check we have packed enough snacks, milk, and diapers for the babysitter; just as we shower our kids with hugs and kisses before they step out the door–so has our God, our Heavenly Father, prepared us for our time on earth.

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)

We can be filled with confidence in ourselves and our ability to go through life with happiness, because we are equipped.

  1. This is a wonderful post Marla. I love the optimism and belief and trust in all of us as mothers. I completely agree with the sentiment, and it was only just yesterday that I’d been refining what my own blog was about, and it’s really about inspiring ourselves to trust our instincts because we do have them. Parenting has become so sophisticated and scientific with baby Einstein and sleep programs that I had wondered whether we had lost the art of parenting..where we believe that we are equipped. Loved this for its great positive vibes πŸ™‚

      • Ahh, I pressed send too soon. But we really do have the instincts and divine gifts. Especially as we look to God. He seems to enhance those abilities as we ask. I love your blog and think you are doing so well at inspiring moms. Motherhood can be difficult, but we can do it ☺ thank you for sharing your thoughts– I so enjoyed them!

  2. Oh my goodness, Marla, that same post, Mothers Are Not Wimps, has been open in my internet tabs for weeks as well! So funny. πŸ™‚ I LOVED it! She, and you, are so right. We have been sent prepared. We can do it, because God has made us so. Motherhood is such an amazing thing. I always laugh when I leave my kids with my husband to go grocery shopping and he’s completely worn out that night. Our nature as women is unique and beautiful, and the role of a husband is equally unique and wonderful in very different ways. I finished Stephanie’s book a couple months ago and just can’t get over how incredible she is. I don’t just admire her for all that she’s overcome, but maybe even more-so for her desire to fulfill her calling as a wife and mother. I’m so glad you wrote this! I look up to you as well, for your optimism and your always encouraging demeanor. I was only three-fourths kidding about moving to Colorado, by the way. πŸ˜‰ Happy Thanksgiving in your new home! I’m so glad we’re friends!

    • Hahaha, Chelsi, it cracks me up how similar we are! Even to the extent that we keep the same article open in a tab for weeks! πŸ™‚ It really was such a good article that left me thinking and inspired. Stephanie is amazing. I haven’t read her book, even though I would love too, but everything about her just radiates with faith as a purposeful, happy mother–the type of mother that I yearn to be. And I totally agree with you, I’ve always known my husband and I were different (obviously πŸ™‚ ), but as we have become parents it has become more apparent how we are each fitted to our roles perfectly.

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! We are so happy to be settled, seriously, there is this peace that pervades my life right now that is so deep. And honestly, if we hadn’t already closed on the house, being your next door neighbor sounds LOVELY. Except, the rattlesnakes. πŸ˜‰ Have a wonderful weekend!

    • Thank you so much, Kim! I’m so glad that you could relate to this post. I agree with you–it is amazing when we look back and see how much we have overcome. It is evidence that God really loves us and is supporting us through all the difficulties and emotions of motherhood. πŸ™‚ Thank you for sharing–your comment lifted me up!

  4. I totally agree with this post! Mothers are not wimps they are strong! I have not read the one that inspired you…yet. I think we totally need to trust our impressions, inspiration and instincts when raising our families. God sent these children to us and I have experienced him giving me answers when I needed them. I have also experienced ignoring or being “talked out” of following my feelings by experts, the advise of the well meaning and eventually wished I had followed my first impression. Love you !
